SUBJECT: KAZAKHSTAN: DEMARCHE DELIVERED ON CANDIDACY OF DAVID WALKER
FOR UN INDEPENDENT AUDIT ADVISORY COMMITTEE

REF: (A) State 146857, (B)State 149678

Poloff delivered reftel demarches and talking points/biography to
Amanbek Demesinov, director of the international organizations
section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on October 30. Demesinov
was unaware of the forthcoming election for the Independent Audit
Advisory Committee, though he thought it was logical that the United
States government should have a representative on the committee,
given our significant financial contributions to the United Nations.
Nonetheless, he was unable to offer any commitment on behalf of the
Government of Kazakhstan. He reported that he would consult with
the Kazakhstani delegation in New York on the issue.
