SUBJECT: Iran and Information Regarding UNSCR 1737 -- Guinea

REF: A) 06 State 202585

1. (SBU) On January 9, Poloff delivered reftel demarche on the
targeted sanctions on Iran's nuclear program imposed by UN Security
Council Resolution 1737 to Ambassador Mamady Traore, Political
Counselor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Poloff gave Traore a
copy of the non-paper.

2. (SBU) Traore said he appreciated the information regarding
Iran's obligations as well as those of UN member states. He said
that Guinea is closely following the situation. He confirmed that
Guinea has no role in providing assistance to Iran or supplying it
with goods related to its nuclear program. Traore said Guinea
remains extremely concerned with Iran's refusal to adhere to UN
resolutions, stating that no member state has the right to disregard
the position of the rest of the world.
