(U) Poloff delivered reftel A demarche to Mr. Vitus Njiku,
Head of the Security Council Unit of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs' Multilateral Division, on the morning of April 27,
2006. Njiku said voting to extend the mandate of the 1540
Committee "shouldn't be a problem" for the Government of
Tanzania (GOT), but he is "not sure" about the GOT's
willingness to so-sponsor the resolution. Njiku said he
would check with his colleagues in New York. Poloff
emphasized time isof the essence as the vote is scheduled
for today, April 27, and the mandate of the 1540 Committee
expires April 28.
