1. (S/NF)  Per reftel request, the following information is 
provided regarding Kuwait-based NGO Lajnat Al-Daawa 
Al-Islamiya (LDI: Islamic Call Committee).  The information 
is publicly available.  Any new additional information will 
be provided via ORCA channels. 
 
2. (U)  Established in 1984, LDI is an affiliate organization 
of Social Reform Society (SRS).  LDI began its relief work in 
Pakistan and Afghanistan and expanded after the liberation of 
Kuwait in 1991 to cover new areas, namely, Central Asia 
Republics, Kashmir, Chechnya, and Muslim minorities.  The 
objectives of LDI include: disseminating concepts of Islam to 
affirm and correct the Islamic faith in the LDI's areas of 
action, providing relief to needy Muslims, highlighting 
charity work in the state of Kuwait, and upgrading the level 
of Kuwaiti cadres in charity work. 
 
3. (U)  LDI has established projects and extended aid both 
domestically in Kuwait and outside Kuwait.  Within Kuwait, 
LDI has established Martyr's Week, sponsored charity 
exhibitions, supported the building of parks and schools, 
sponsored sports activities, and participated in religion 
oriented plays and dramas.  Outside of Kuwait, LDI has 
established construction, production, and charitable 
projects.  Construction projects include schools, institutes, 
camps, mosques, Islamic centers, well-drilling, housing, 
health units, orphanages, colleges, institutes, and 
hospitals.  Production projects include, sewing ateliers, 
farms, apiaries, factories, printing houses and yards. 
Charitable projects include sponsoring orphans, students, and 
missionary workers, printing and publishing the Holy Quran 
and Islamic books, establishing Quran education and 
inculcation centers, sacrifices, Iftar meals, ambulance 
posts, ambulance workers' salaries, and teachers' salaries. 
 
4. (U)  The Chairman of LDI is Abdul Latif Ramadan Al-Hajiri. 
 As noted above, LDI is one of several external committees of 
the Social Reform Society.  SRS external operations are 
supervised by a General Secretariat headed by Dr. Jassem 
Mohammed Al-Yassin.  The SRS maintains an internet web-site 
at www.eslah.org.
