Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.

2. (SBU) The Somalia Unit, including the Military Information 
Support Team (MIST) dedicated to Somalia, performed para. 3-5 
activities since the last report: 
 
 
 
3. (SBU) Somalia Unit, in conjunction with AF/PD, is facilitating 
the planned visit of the Transitional Federal Government's Minister 
of Information to the U.S. for Diaspora outreach.  The Minister is 
planning to visit the UK on the same trip; we are coordinating with 
the British High Commission in Nairobi to ensure the visits are 
complementary to one another. 
 
 
 
4. (SBU) PAO and a member of the Military Information Support Team 
(MIST) visited Dadaab refugee camps from January 11-13 to speak 
with organizations to whom we provided sports equipment and gear 
for drama performances in November 2009.  All beneficiaries 
remained extremely grateful for the materials, and appear to be 
putting them to positive use. 
 
 
 
5. (SBU) MIST activity: Continued audience analysis for a planned 
Islamic lecture series, possibly on Radio Mogadishu.
