Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.

SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR ELECTIONS SUPPORT FOR EMBASSY KABUL'S 
POLITICAL SECTION 
 
1. (U) Embassy Kabul requests the services of S/CRS in 
support of the upcoming Provincial Elections May 2010. The 
Political Section is creating an interagency team and would 
like to request that up too three positions be created and 
filled by S/CRS for the period March-September 2010. 
 
2. (U) The positions in priority order are: 
 
A.  Elections Policy Expert and Coordinator - This is a FS-01 
equivalent position.  The officer would be the lead organizer 
of the Political Section's elections team and be under the 
supervision of the Political Counselor. 
 
B.  Knowledge Management Officer - This is a FS-04 equivalent 
position. The officer would manage the classified and 
unclassified materials and communications with Washington 
concerning the elections. 
 
C.  Elections Logistics Coordinator - This is a FS-03 
equivalent position.  The officer would manage logistical 
aspects of the electoral process and be under the supevision 
of the Policy Expert and Coordinator.
