SUBJECT: UAE SEEKS SUPPORT FOR ITU AND RRB MEMBERSHIP 
 
1. (SBU) On January 6, post received a diplomatic note from the MFA 
requesting US support for its International Telecommunication Union 
(ITU) membership and the nomination of Nasser bin Hammad, Senior 
Manager for International Affairs at the UAE's Telecommunications 
Regulatory Authority, for Radio Regulations Board membership for 
the period 2010-2014. An informal translation of the note follows. 
Post has also emailed a copy of bin Hammad's CV to NEA/ARP.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates has the 
honor to inform the Embassy that the UAE has decided to re-nominate 
[itself] for International Telecommunication Union (ITU) membership 
for the period 2010-2014 and to nominate Engineer Nasser Abdullatif 
bin Hammad, Senior Manager for International Affairs at the 
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for Radio Regulations 
Board membership for the period of 2010 - 2014. The voting will 
take place during the International Telecommunication Union 
Plenipotentiary Conference in Mexico from October 4-22, 2010. (The 
biography of Eng. Nasser bin Hammad is attached herewith.) 
 
 
 
The Government of the United Arab Emirates hopes to receive U.S. 
support for this nomination based on the friendly relationship 
between the two countries.
