Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK 
violence in Turkey.  Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff 
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as 
well as casualties incurred. 
 
2. (U) During November 24-30, no security official was killed or 
injured.  The total number of security force casualties for the year 
through November 30, is 53 killed and 90 injured. 
 
3. (U) During the same period, one PKKer was killed in clashes in 
Sirnak province on Nov 30, and two were captured in Sirnak province. 
 According to official TGS website figures, through the fourth week 
of November, the number of PKK militants killed this year is 46, the 
number of those captured is 73.  The number of those who surrendered 
reached 119. 
 
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed but one 
was injured due to a PKK IED in Siirt province on Nov 30.  The total 
number of civilian casualties for the year through the end of the 
fourth week of November, is 15 killed and 26 wounded.
