Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK 
violence in Turkey.  Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff 
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as 
well as casualties incurred. 
 
2. (U) During the October 24-31 period, no security official was 
killed or injured.  The total number of security force casualties 
for the year through October 31, was 53 killed and 90 injured. 
 
3. (U) During the same period, no PKKer was killed or captured. 
According to official TGS website figures, through the fourth week 
of October the number of PKK militants killed this year is 43, the 
number captured is 60.  One PKKer surrendered in Kahramanmaras 
province on October 30 so the number of those who surrendered so far 
this year reaches 108. 
 
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed or injured 
due to PKK activity.  The total number of civilian casualties for 
the year through the end of the fourth week of October, was 15 
killed and 25 wounded.
