SUBJECT: SWEDISH DEVELOPMENT MINISTER CARLSSON INVITES 
AMBASSADOR VERVEER TO SWEDEN 
 
At a meeting with Ambassador Barzun on October 9, Swedish 
Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla 
Carlsson invited Ambassador-at-Large Melanne Verveer to visit 
Sweden to discuss women's and gender issues in developing 
countries.  Carlsson, who would like to see a greater 
cooperation between the U.S. and Sweden in these areas, 
proposed that the visit take place at a time on Verveer's 
convenience after Sweden relinquishes Presidency of the EU on 
January 1, 2010.
