1. (SBU) Responding to reftel demarche, Ministry of Foreign 
Affairs (MFA) Director of United Nations Division Rime Jirari 
told EconOff on October 1 that the U.S. can count on 
Morocco's "unconditional support" in its candidacy for the 
council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). 
The MFA reiterated that support in a Diplomatic Note sent to 
the Embassy on October 5. 
 
2.  (SBU) The text of the Diplomatic Note (no. 2342) follows: 
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the 
Kingdom of Morocco presents its compliments to the Embassy of 
the United States of America in Rabat and with reference to 
the latter's Diplomatic Note no. 345 dated September 24th, 
2009, has the honor to inform the Embassy that the Kingdom of 
Morocco will support unconditionally the candidacy of the 
United States of America, for reelection to category "A" 
membership in the Council of the International Maritime 
Organization (IMO), in the election to be held during the 
26th session of the IMO assembly, scheduled to take place in 
London, from November 23rd to December 04th, 2009. 
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the 
Kingdom of Morocco avails itself of this opportunity to renew 
to the Embassy of the United States of America in Rabat the 
assurances of its highest consideration.
