¶1. "PAKISTAN'S PROBLEMS," editorial in June 24 right- 
of-center Gujarati daily, GUJARAT SAMACHAR: "There is 
not going to be an end to the problems faced by 
Pakistan despite its receiving enormous aid from 
America. This is because most of the aid is utilized to 
amass weapons against India and the remainder gets 
distributed among those in power. Besides, Pakistani 
leadership is devoid of any policy to fight extremist 
elements within Pakistan.  The result is that the 
Taliban is making swift inroads while the government 
watches as a mute spectator."

U.S. FOREIGN POLICY

¶2. "DAYS OF U.S. SUPREMACY ARE OVER," op-ed in June 23 
centrist Hindi daily, DAINIK BHASKAR: "U.S. dominance 
faced its biggest challenge at the BRIC summit in 
Yekaterinburg, Russia, recently. The indications from 
the summit confirmed that U.S. dominance, at least in 
economic matters, is headed toward its end. The 
dollar's standing as the international currency has 
already taken a beating. The way it was openly 
challenged in Yekaterinburg has perhaps never happened 
before. At the BRIC summit, the issue of finding an 
alternative to the dollar was on top of the agenda. But 
this was not mentioned openly in the summit joint 
statement, because India did not express much interest. 
Long-term strategic relations with the U.S. are clearly 
a priority for the Manmohan government. But U.S. 
supremacy over the world is in jeopardy."

¶3. "IRAN ELECTIONS: PROBLEMS WITHIN," op-ed in June 24 
centrist Marathi daily, LOKMAT: "The post-election 
violence in Iran is a definite worry for the world. The 
turmoil in Iran poses a dilemma for the world. Speaking 
up in support of the protesters or keeping quiet -- 
both of these options are risky." 
 
¶4. "U.S. INTERFERENCE IN IRAN," editorial in June 23 
centrist Hindi daily, NAI DUNIYA: "The voices of 
protest in Iran are getting shriller and shriller. But 
Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei has adopted a tough 
posture, and is not in favor of re-polls. President 
Obama has urged Iran's government to stop all violent 
and unjust actions against its own people. President 
Ahmadinejad has asked the US not to interfere in Iran's

internal matters, even as the powerful Jewish Israeli 
lobby in the U.S. is demanding direct intervention by 
Washington. When will the US and Britain stop meddling 
in the affairs of other countries? They do not want to 
give the Iranians a chance to sort out their problems 
internally. Whether the West likes it or not, 
Ahmadinejad is a popular leader with a wide support 
base. The West is making a big mistake in 
overestimating the strength of the Moussavi camp and 
further antagonizing the people of Iran."
