Understanding cables

1. (SBU)  SUMMARY: The number of H1N1 infections in Germany 
rose by 29 cases to a total of 417 on June 30. END SUMMARY. 
 
2. (SBU)  On June 30, the National Reference Center for 
Influenza at RKI announced in its press briefing twenty-nine 
new laboratory-confirmed cases of H1N1 for Germany. This 
increases the number of confirmed cases in Germany to a total 
of 417.  New cases were distributed among the federal states 
as follows: North Rhine-Westphalia (20), Baden-Wrttemberg 
(4), Hesse (3), Schleswig-Holstein (1) and Bavaria (1). 
3. (SBU)  North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) remains the state 
showing the highest number of infections among all German 
states with 193 confirmed cases, followed by Baden- 
Wuerttemberg (64) and Bavaria (57 cases).  The Federal State 
of Saarland remains the only state without confirmed virus 
cases.  Over half of all confirmed infections in Germany 
resulted from domestic transmission. To date, this number sits 
at a total of 230.
