Understanding cables

(u) Following up reftels, Department of Foreign Affairs and 
International Trade (DFAIT) Deputy Director for South Asia 
Peter Fawcett told Econcouns on May 22 that DFAIT "agree(s) 
completely" with the USG view on the Internally Displaced 
Persons (IDP) crisis in Pakistan.  Fawcett added that the 
situation has worsened in past few days, and there are now 
some two million IDP's.  He said Canada is contributing $8 
million to help address the IDP situation, and would consider 
further funding once an in-depth assessment is completed.
