1. (SBU) The parliamentary vote demanded by the Democratic Party 
(DP) for the dissolution of Prime Minister S.Bayar's government 
failed on July 18.  Following a long plenary discussion of the 
post-election violence on July 1, the demand was put to a vote.  Of 
the 53 MPs making up the quorum, 16 voted to dissolve the 
government, all from the Democratic Party, and 37 voted against, 
with 35 of the 37  votes coming from ruling Mongolian People's 
Revolutionary Party MPs.  MPs Oyun (leader of the Civil Will Party 
and Foreign Minister) and M.Enkhsaikhan (founder of the New National 
Party with two ministerial seats in the current government) voted 
with the majority MPRP to support the government. 
 
2. (SBU) The Speaker announced the closing session of the current 
Parliament will be held on Tuesday, July 22.  The first session of 
the new Parliament is expected to convene the following day on 
Wednesday, July 23 (ref A).
