SUMMARY

¶1.  In May 2008, the Government of Nicaragua (GON) reported the 
resolution of 9 Embassy registered property claims. With the 
inclusion of these 9 claims resolved in May, the GON has so far 
resolved 21 claims during the 2007-2008 waiver year.  The Property 
Office database now includes 647 unresolved registered property 
claims belonging to 305 Amcits.  To date, most resolutions have 
involved compensation via government-issued indemnification bonds 
("bonos de pago de indemnizacion" or BPIs).  As of May 31, 2008, the 
GON has issued BPIs with a face value of $324,730,382 to 
Embassy-registered claimants.  Since taking office in January 2007, 
the Ortega administration has resolved a total of 26 claims, 21 
during this waiver year. 
 
EMBASSY-REGISTERED CLAIMS RESOLVED IN MAY 2008

¶2. On May 20, 2008, Attorney General Hernan Estrada provided the 
Embassy a copy of the final settlement document or "finiquito" 
signed on March 27, 2008, by U.S. citizen Vicky del Carmen Trejos de 
Enciso.  Mrs. Trejos received BPIs worth 1,677,100 cordobas, 
approximately $86,918.89.  We have updated our database to reflect 
this settlement.

¶3. On May 20, 2008, Attorney General Estrada provided the Embassy a 
copy of the finiquito signed on April 16, 2008, by U.S. citizen 
Susan Patricia Aguerri, legal representative and share holder of the 
company "Inmuebles El Socorro."  Mrs. Aguerri received BPIs worth 
5,575,000 cordobas, approximately $288,934.95.  We have updated our 
database to reflect this settlement.

¶4. On May 20, 2008, Attorney General Estrada provided the Embassy a

Arguello.  Mrs. Arguello received BPIs worth 1,018,300 cordobas, 
approximately $52,775.33. We have updated our database to reflect 
this settlement.

¶5. On May 20, 2008, Attorney General Estrada, provided the Embassy a 
copy of the finiquito signed on May 9, 2008, by U.S. citizen Adolfo 
Riedel.  Mr. Riedel received BPIs worth 930,200 cordobas, 
approximately $48,209.38.  We have updated our database to reflect 
this settlement.

¶6. On May 23, 2008, Attorney General Estrada provided the Embassy 
Property Office a copy of the finiquito signed on May 20, 2008, by 
Fabiola Ibarra Gonzalez, legal representative of the heirs of U.S. 
citizen Gilberto Rosales.  The heirs of Mr. Rosales received BPIs 
worth 138,300 cordobas, approximately $7,167.66.  We have updated 
our database to reflect this settlement.

¶7. On May 26, 2008, Attorney General Estrada provided the Embassy a 
copy of the finiquito signed on May 26, 2008, by Violeta Barquero, 
legal representative of U.S. citizen Guillermo Barquero.  Mr. 
Barquero received BPIs worth 3,600,300 cordobas, approximately 
$186,592.38.  We have updated our database to reflect this 
settlement.
