1.  SUMMARY.  The Government of Brazil agrees on the extension of 
the Cooperation Agreement in the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space signed 
in 1996.  END SUMMARY. 
 
2.  In response to the diplomatic note from Embassy (per REFTEL) 
proposing the extension of Brazil's participation in the cooperation 
in the peaceful uses of outer space, on June 6, 2008, Post  received 
a diplomatic note (DMAE/CGEUC/DAI/71/MESP) from Brazil's Ministry of 
External Relations agreeing to the extension of the Agreement. 
 
3.  An informal translation of the note is as follows: 
 
The Ministry of External Relations complements the United States of 
America Embassy and has the honor to refer to Diplomatic Note number 
58 dated February 21, 2008, which proposes the extension, until 
January 31, 2009, of the Cooperation Agreement in the Peaceful Uses 
of Outer Space, signed at Brasilia on March 1, 1996. 
 
Regarding this matter, the Ministry of External Relations informs 
that the Government of Brazil agrees with the extension of the 
Agreement, in the terms proposed by that Embassy. 
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs equally agrees that the referenced 
and actual notes constitute an agreement between the two Governments 
to extend the Agreement, which shall enter into force on the date of 
July 9, 2007."
