1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.

2. (U) During the May 1-7, 2008 reporting period, one security
official was injured when an explosive was detonated on the road by
the PKK. The total number of security force casualties for the year
through May 7, 2008 was 37 killed and 43 injured.

3. (U) During the same period, more than 152 PKK terrorists were
reported killed, including two in direct clashes and the remaining
during air strikes by Turkish Air Force jets against PKK sites in
northern Iraq. Two additional PKKers were captured inside Turkey
and one surrendered. According to official TGS website figures,
through the first week of May, the number of PKK militants killed
this year was 468, the number of those captured was 88, and the
number of those who surrendered was 59.

4. (U) The total number of civilian casualties for the year through
the end of the first week of May remained 11 killed, with another 52
