Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

1.  (SBU)  The embassy  passed reftel message concerning 
missing Amcit Robert Levinson to French MFA DAS-equivalent 
for Iran, Iraq, and the Gulf Franck Gellet as well as Iran 
desk officer Arnaud Pescheux on December 13.  We stressed the 
request for any information the GOF or its embassy in Tehran 
may have that could help establish Mr. Levinson's fate. 
 
2.  (SBU)  Pescheux responded, by e-mail, on December 24, 
stating that France did not have any additional information 
concerning Mr. Levinson beyond what we had indicted in our 
demarche.
