SUBJECT:  LATVIAN PARLIAMENT EXTENDS TROOP MANDATE FOR IRAQ 
 
 
On December 20, Latvia's Saeima (Parliament) voted 65-21 to extend 
the mandate for the country's troop presence in Iraq until December 
31, 2008.  Latvia currently has 3 servicemen stationed in Iraq, 
serving in training and support functions.  The Saeima previously 
allocated 167,000 Lats (approximately $340,000 USD) to finance its 
troop deployment in Iraq for 2008.
