Understanding cables

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). 1.  (U) This message is Sensitive but Unclassified -- Please

2.  (SBU)  On September 17, poloff met with Hari Purwanto, 
Director of the North American Office at the Department of 
Foreign Affairs, to request GOI support for U.S. candidate 
Felice Gaer's reelection to the UN Committee Against Torture, 
per ref A.  Poloff conveyed the points in ref B, emphasizing 
Gaer's outstanding work on the committee, her high standing 
among colleagues and her wealth of experience in the field of 
human rights. 
 
3.  (SBU) Purwanto acknowledged Gaer's qualifications.  He 
said he did not yet know the GOI stance but would inquire and 
let us know soon.  He said the decision will be made at the 
level of Director General for Multilateral Affairs  Rezlan 
Ishar Jemie, or possibly higher, with likely input from 
Indonesian Ambassador to the UN Mr. Marty Natalegawa. 
Purwanto said he would brief them.
