Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). 1. (U) Pol/C met September 17 with Hari Purwanto, Director of 
the North American Office at the Department of Foreign 
Affairs (DEPLU), to extend an invitation to Indonesia to send 
two participants to the U.S.-hosted Global Peace Operations 
Initiative (GPOI) G8 Global Clearinghouse Conference October 
24-26 in Washington.  The invitations to the GOI were for 
either military or civilian participants.  Pol/C relayed that 
the conference would develop an inventory of peace operations 
capacity-building efforts, explore strategies for peace 
operations capacity-building, discuss how to facilitate 
international collaboration and share best practices. 
 
2. (U) Purwanto said he would convey the invitation to the 
proper agencies.  He expressed the view that Indonesia would 
send participants and said he would inform Mission of their 
names as soon as possible. 
 
3. (U) Mission has also provided details of the conference to 
appropriate offices at the Indonesian Department of Defense.
