Viewing cable 07DAKAR1465, UPDATED SENEGALESE ATTENDANCE AT THE AGOA FORUM

If you are new to these pages, please read an introduction on the structure of a cable as well as how to discuss them with others. See also the FAQs

Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.
To understand the justification used for the classification of each cable, please use this WikiSource article as reference.

SUBJECT: UPDATED SENEGALESE ATTENDANCE AT THE AGOA FORUM

REF: A. DAKAR 1113
     B. STATE 058394
     C. DAKAR 1054

1. On July 11, Senegal's Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cheikh
Tidiane Gadio, told the Ambassador that he will now lead Senegal's
official delegation to the AGOA Forum. Gadio would welcome a
bilateral meeting with Secretary Rice. We do not expect recently
appointed Minister of Commerce Amadou Habibou Ndiaye or other
Senegalese ministers to attend this year's Forum, but that could
still change in the coming week. The MOC's Director of External
Trade, Cheikh Saadbou Seck, is already in Accra and can help
coordinate meetings with GOS officials.

2. In addition to Seck, we still expect the other GOS official
noted in Ref A to attend: Ms. Maimouna Savane, Director General of
the Senegalese Agency for Export Promotion (ASEPEX); Mr. Omar Samb,
Director General of Agency for the Promotion and Development of
Handicraft(APDA); and Mr. Moctar Diakhate, Director of Artisanry.
