1.  (U) U.S. Mission Geneva received a diplomatic note from the 
Permanent Mission of France requesting U.S. Government support for 
the French candidature to the Human Rights Council at elections to 
be held in New York in 2008. 
 
2.  (U) Mission has responded that the information contained in the 
note has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities of the USG 
for their attention. 
 
3.  (U) A copy of the diplomatic note has been e-mailed to IO/UNP, 
IO-RHS, L-HRR.

La Mission Permanente de la France aupres des Nations Unies et des 
Organisations Internationales a Geneve presente ses compliments a la 
Mission Permanente des Etats-Unis d'Amerique aupres des Nations 
Unies et des Organisations Internationales a Geneve et a l'honneur 
de lui faire savoir que la France a decide de presenter sa 
candidature a l'election du Conseil des Droits de l'homme, qui se 
tiendra en 2008, pour la periode 2008-2011. Conformement au 
paragraphe OP 8 de la resolution A/RES/60/251 creant le Conseil des 
Droits de l'Homme, un etat des contributions francaises a la 
promotion et la protection des droits de l'Homme et les engagements 
volontaires francais dans ce domaine seront diffuses prochainement. 
 
La Mission Permanente de la France aupres des Nations Unies et des 
Organisations Internationales a Geneve saisit cette occasion pour 
renouveler a la Mission Permanente des Etats-Unis d'Amerique aupres 
des Nations Unies et des Organisations Internationales a Geneve les
