1. This is an action request - see paragraph 3. 
 
2. In order to comply with Leahy vetting requirements, this cable 
forwards the name and biodata of a brigadier general in the Afghan 
National Police who has been selected for appointment as chief of 
police in a high-priority district.  Post has reviewed the 
information available on this individual and has found no derogatory 
information.  The United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan 
(UNAMA) has vetted this individual and has found no credible 
evidence of gross human rights violations. 
 
3. Request Department respond soonest so that the Ministry of 
Interior can move ahead with this urgent appointment.
