Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). SUBJECT:  COUNTRY CLEARANCE RQUEST FOR CG MAKILA JAMES 
 
 
1.  Makila James, Consul General Juba, requests country clearance to 
visit Embassy Nairobi for consultations with the Political and 
Consular Sections on the afternoon of November 7 and then onward 
travel to Samburu to participate in the USAID Southern Sudan 
Democracy and Governance Partners Retreat November 8-10. 
 
2.  Ms. James would appreciate being met and assisted at Jomo 
Kenyatta Airport, and transportation to Embassy Nairobi for meetings 
on November 7.  She would also appreciate accommodations at either 
the Serena or Norfolk hotels in Nairobi for November 7 and upon 
return on November 10 and 11 only.  Ms. James will depart Nairobi on 
the morning of November 12 for Khartoum. 
 
3.  Traveler does not have a Kenyan visa, but is traveling on a 
diplomatic passport.  Please advise on the possibility of obtaining 
a Kenyan visa at the airport upon arrival, if necessary.  Please 
direct responses to this inquiry to attention of Makila James and 
Pol/Econ Counselor Eric Whitaker at Embassy Khartoum.
