September 14 with Department of Foreign Affairs Acting 
Assistant Secretary for UN and International Organizations 
Julius Torres, emphasizing the importance of ending violence 
in the Darfur region of Sudan.  Torres said he would 
immediately convey our demarche to the Philippine delegation 
in Havana.  He stated that the Philippines in principle 
supported deployment of a UN Peacekeeping Mission to the 
troubled area.
