1. (SBU) Summary: On Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 
approximately 2100 hours local an explosion occurred in the 
town of Catak (Van Province) in southeastern Turkey killing 
two and injuring fourteen.  End summary. 
 
2. (SBU) At approximately 2100 hours local, an explosion 
occurred in an open teahouse frequented by civil service 
employees in downtown Catak.  TNP contacts report that the 
device (NFI) was placed in a garbage container.  One turkish 
police officer and one muncipality worker were killed and 
fourteen people injured.  No foreigners were reported to be 
injured. 
 
3. (SBU) As of 9/5/06, there has been no claim of 
responsibility for this bombing although the KGK-affiliated 
Taybazen Azadiya Kurdistan (TAK - Turkish Freedom Hawks) has 
been linked to similar attacks in the past.
