Understanding cables

SUBJECT: DEMONSTRATION AGAINST U.S. SUPPORT OF GOI ACTION 
IN LEBANON AND GAZA 
 
 
1. (U) On Tuesday, August 1, at 1800 hours, an organized 
protest took place across the street from U.S. Embassy Tel 
Aviv.  The demonstration was in opposition to the United 
States' support for Israel's current military actions in 
Lebanon and Gaza, and concluded after approximately two hours 
without incident. 
 
2. (U)  The demonstration, organized by the Communist Party 
of Israel and led by Knesset member Esam Maholbanon, was , 
non-violent and covered by the local press.  The 
demonstrators, numbering between 250-300, stood along 
Hayarkon Street, across from the Chancery.  A robust Israeli 
National Police presence was dispatched to augment Embassy 
security assets.
