SUBJECT:  Statement Ousting SLM/A Leader Abdel Wahid 
 
1. (SBU) SUMMARY AND COMMENT:  On July 28, members of the SLA/M 
"Military Council and Field Command" released a statement announcing 
the removal of Abdel Wahid as SLA/M Chairperson and appointment of 
Commander Ahmed Abdul Shafi as the new SLM chairperson and commander 
of the SLA.  The statement is likely the product of a July 25 
conference of SLM/A Wahid forces in the Jebel Marra region. 
Unsubstantiated reporting suggests that this group will soon join 
forces with the National Redemption Front.  END SUMMARY AND COMMENT.

Subject: Ousting of Mr Abdul Waheed Mohammed Nour SLA/M Chairperson 
 
 
On our meeting Tuesday 25th July 2006 as members of SLA/M military 
Council and the Field Commanders, we have taken the following 
decisions: 
 
ONE - Ousting Mr Abdul Waheed Mohammed Nour as chairperson of Sudan 
Liberation Army/Movement. 
 
TWO - Appointing Commander Ahmed Abdul Shafi as new chairperson of 
SLM and Commander in Chief for SLA. 
 
THREE - Ask the chairperson after consulting the Military Council, 
to change the movement leadership structure within 72 hours of this 
statement. 
 
FOUR - For the new leadership to run the Movement affairs until we 
hold the movement convention. 
 
FIVE - We reassurance the Sudanese people in general, Darfurian 
people specially and the movement members, the refugee and IDP in 
the camps, that the new leadership, the military council and the 
field commanders will do all they can to fulfil their aspirations 
and Secure their rights. 
 
We offer mark of respect to our martyrs. 
We wish speedy recovery for the injured.
