Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:

1. (U) Ambassador met September 4 with President Saleh and 
September 5 with Prime Minister Bajammal to thank them for 
their expressions of sympathy on behalf of the victims of 
Hurricane Katrina.  The official Government daily al-Thawra 
reported on September 1 that President Saleh sent a cable to 
President Bush offering his condolences. 
 
2. (U) The ROYG pledged USD 100,000 in relief aid to the Red 
Cross out of solidarity with the American people, despite the 
fact that Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the world. 
 On behalf of Secretary Rice, Ambassador expressed his 
gratitude to PM Bajammal for Yemen's generosity, a symbol of 
the strong relationship between the two countries.
