SUBJECT: PERU OFFERS MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR VICTIMS OF 
HURRICANE KATRINA 
 
 
1.  President Toledo and Foreign Minister Maurtua called the 
Ambassador on September 3, to offer assistance to the victims 
of Hurricane Katrina.  They said that the GOP is prepared to 
send a plane carrying 80-100 doctors, as early as September 
3, to treat Peruvian and non-Peruvians in Louisiana and Texas 
for 2-3 days.  The doctors work for the Health Ministry and 
ESSALUD, Peru's social security administration.
