Understanding cables

1.  (SBU) Ecuador's ex-president Lucio Gutierrez arrived in 
Brasilia Sunday afternoon, April 24, via Brazilian Air Force 
737 and was transferred immediately by helicopter to 
Brasilia's Military Sector.  For the time being, Gutierrez 
and his family will lodge in officers transit quarters on the 
army base. 
 
2.  (SBU) Gutierrez who is holding a two-year visa that will 
allow him to work in Brazil, is expected to meet with Justice 
Minister Bastos on April 26 to review his status in Brazil. 
Ecuadorian Embassy officials in Brasilia confirm they do not 
anticipate any contact with the former president.
