Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:

This is the Southeastern Turkey press summary for April 10-12, 
ΒΆ2004.  Please note that Turkish press reports often contain

POLITICAL, SECURITY, HUMAN RIGHTS 
 
 
Sabah Guney / Easter Sunday was celebrated in Antakya and 
Mardin. The Antakya governor and his wife attended the 
ceremonies in Antakya. 
 
 
Ulkede Gundem / A small number of DEHAP members gathered at 
Adana's Inonu Park and shouted slogans complaining that 
KONGRA-GEL was being considered a terrorist organization by EU. 
 
 
Ulkede Gundem / Police in civil uniform raided the classes at 
Adana's 75.Yil high school and abused the students physically 
and psychologically. 
 
 
Ulkede Gundem / Hakkari Human Rights Organization former head 
Naif Karacan applied to the court to change his name to a 
Kurdish name and his application was denied.  Karacan is now 
filing a case in the European Court of Human Rights. 
 
 
Bolge / Mehmet Kilincaslan, head of the Adana EMEP (Toil Party), 
announced during a press conference at Inonu Park that U.S 
soldiers should leave Iraq and that the Greater Middle East 
Project should not be supported. 
 
 
Turkiye / There was a 3.8 Richter scale earthquake in Van on 
April 11 at 8 A.M 
 
 
CULTURE and TOURISM 
 
 
Cumhuriyet / Nemrut is awarded "Golden Apple" by the World 
Tourism Writers and Journalists Association." The Golden apple 
will be given to the Adiyaman Governor on August 13 on Nemrut 
Mountain. 
 
 
Zaman / The Zeugma display in Istanbul during the NATO Summit is 
in danger.  Gaziantep Courts decided that the mosaics could not 
be transferred from Gaziantep owing to the possible negative
