Understanding cables

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). 1. (U) On January 10, UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed 
appointed Yousef Saif Khamis Al Ali as UAE Ambassador to 
Afghanistan.  (Note:  The UAE has not had an ambassador in 
Afghanistan in the post 9/11 era.  The UAE embassy was reopened in 
March 2002, staffed and supported from the embassy in Islamabad, 
but did not assume independent staffing and management until March 
2006.  End Note.) 
 
 
 
2. (SBU) UAE Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan 
Amb. Ali Al Shamsi told SRAP Senior Advisor Jarrett Blanc and 
EconOff on January 10 that Al Ali is expected to arrive in Kabul in 
the next 30 days.  Al Shamsi said Al Ali is a former UAE military 
officer.
