Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). 1.  (SBU) Ambassador presented ref A points announcing USG candidacy 
for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council in a meeting on April 6 
with Icelandic MFA Permanent Secretary Benedikt Jonsson.  Jonsson 
said Iceland would "look warmly on" the U.S. entry into the race and 
took the points on board. 
 
2.  (SBU) Pol Chief delivered ref B diplomatic note and Human Rights 
Pledge to Ingibjorg Davidsdottir, Counsellor for Human Rights at the 
Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs on 17 April.  Davidsdottir 
replied immediately that the U.S. can count on Iceland's support in 
the May 12 election.  (Note:  The MFA's Political Director expressed 
the same sentiment in an informal conversation with Pol Chief on 
April 16.)
