ΒΆ1. (SBU) After repeated discussions with DCM, Government of
Brunei (GoB) officials confirmed that Brunei is planning on
attending the March 31 "International Conference on
Afghanistan" in the Netherlands. Ms. Janeh Sukaimi, Deputy
Director, Politics II, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
(MFAT) told DCM on March 29th, that GoB representatives will
likely attend the conference. The GoB plans to send Brunei's
High Commissioner to the United Kingdom as their lead
representative. Initially, MFAT was not fully aware of all
the conference details. DCM delivered Reftel talking points
to Sukaimi and other GoB officials. While confirming GoB's
likely attendance, Sukaimi did not provide any further
information on the extent of Brunei's participation at the
conference.
