Understanding cables

Per reftels, Embassy March 19 delivered points to MFA Near 
East/Africa Affairs First Secretary Monica Ioakim.  Ioakim 
responded March 23 that Cyprus had fully endorsed the 
position of the EU Presidency concerning the situation in 
Zimbabwe and would endorse the EU Declaration.  Moreover, 
Ioakim noted that Cyprus was examining the possibility of 
issuing a parallel declaration as well; the MFA would reach a 
decision the week of March 26.  She mentioned that the GOC 
recently had met with the UK and other countries to compare 
notes and positions, and all were pushing for "a strong 
stance" on Zimbabwe.  Post will report septel any additional 
substantive responses.
